default Home Attendances

Post by LFC-LCFC on 27/8/2016, 18:31

The number of home fans appears way down so far this season. Without the Glossop fans we would have had about 160 max.

We used to get 220 without any away fans at the back end of last season. Where is everyone? Shocked

So, has the average attendance improved?

That's league games only?!

By my reckoning, league games only,
07/08 317
08/09 225
09/10 239
10/11 218
11/12 232
12/13 171
13/14 231
14/15 236
15/16 220
16/17 241 (so far)

This season boosted by the 531 for the Mossley game. Without that it would be 215, so fairly static.

Thanks, cracking stats!

Glossop fans? Which game were they there for? How big of a draw are we? Very Happy

Without getting into statistics, simply going by eye I thought that crowds were holding up petty well, although given our league position I would be hoping for an increase in attendances

Considering I posted this back in August, I'm gonna assume it was when we played Glossop Smile

default The missing 4000+

Post by janinfrance on 31/1/2017, 08:39

1941 to 1960
From 1945-46 after the Second World War, City enjoyed some tremendous support with gates reaching 4,500 but failed to find success. 1946-47 City reached the FA Cup 2nd round, 1951-52 Combination Runners-Up and Cup Winners in the Lancashire Cup.

I quote from the excellent history of the club. The 4500 will have been my parents' generation and will mostly no longer be with us, but what happened to my generation, what switched us off from getting off our backsides to watch Saturday afternoon football?

We cannot blame the rise of nearby clubs such as Preston and Blackpool, on the contrary both have declined since then. Television coverage of sport is obviously a factor, the decline in City's status another but when you compare with Clitheroe for example who have better gates in a town the third of Lancaster's population there is a serious apathy in our case.

Maybe the Lancaster Guardian could run a survey asking folks why they don't go to watch their club, or would not enough people bother to reply?

Facebook, Twitter, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Sky Sports, BT Sport, Ipads, Tablets, Computers OR go and watch Lancaster City on a cold freezing Saturday Afternoon, ask a member of the Public that ?
I'd pick City every time mind. Just Saying.

The decline in attendances started long before all that technology took off
