City vs. New Mills 2nd November
28/10/2013, 22:04
Thought I'd start this thread early, as I've just noticed that the NM defence was in top form again tonight.....
(Just hope that doesn't put the mockers on us).

Seems they're still shipping goals left right and centre. Can only see them coming to the Axe and parking the bus. They know we've torn them apart before and surely won't go for the win?
I hope they do though.

Bollocks. The good work of the last week undone against a team that concedes almost three goals a game.

Defensively, they were far better than when we played them in the Trophy. Perhaps the turning point of the game was their keeper's terrific save tipping over Swabba's goalbound header. We missed chances as we have been doing all season, but I don't believe we played as badly as some people were claiming. A side missing Hunter. Henry, and Steel is going to be weaker than a side containing them, though I thought that Scholesy and Walker (until he tired) were outstanding, and Gav Clark didn't let us down. With our small squad, a couple of injuries are always going to have a major effect, let alone four, counting Ben Hudson. We now need to bounce back against Broomsticks on Tuesday.

Lack of talk on here says it all really. Miserable game that we all want to forget as quickly as possible.
Missed so many clear cut chances it almost felt like we deserved to lose in the end.

We did make some chances and on another day Swarbs might have had two or three - it's good to see him back in the team. However, Jacko and Tom K were both a little below their best (though unfortunately substituting them only made things worse), and even the normally 100% dependable Ryan Elderton had a bit of an off day. We threatened more through Wills on the right - he was definitely our MOTM in my view.
Credit to New Mills - they were really pushing for a win towards the end, and the only real moment of quality from either side was their goal - a terrific fast slick set of passes rounded off with a superb shot.

A goal just about worthy of all the points. A bloody awful result but I've calmed down now.
